The 1st ENCLE Conference and General Assembly Meeting, organized on the 25th and 26th October 2013 in Warsaw, attracted 49 persons interested in Clinical Legal Education in Europe from 19 countries.
On Friday, 25th October 2013, the 1st official ENCLE General Assembly Meeting took place. During this meeting, the mission of ENCLE was been presented, participants were informed about the recent registration of ENCLE as a legal entity (non-profit association) in the Czech Republic, and they were also given the opportunity to join ENCLE as member. In addition, the election of the new ENCLE Board took place and ENCLE’s future priorities were discussed. Finally, the clinical program of the University of Warsaw organized a study visit for all participants.
The newly elected members of the ENCLE Board are:
Maxim Tomoszek (President – Czech Republic), Ulrich Stege (Secretary – Italy), Liubou Krasnitskaya (Treasurer - Belarus), Katarzyna Furman-Lajszczak (Poland), José García Añón (Spain), Gare Dorothe (Netherlands), Atanas Politov (PILnet), Paul McKeown (UK) and Erik Uszkiewicz.
Dubravka Aksamovic was elected Controller.
On Saturday, the 26th October 2013, the 1st ENCLE Conference was held. After an introductory panel entitled “Different types of clinics, their benefits for European Legal Education” (presented from clinicians from Spain, France, UK and Israel) four different workshops took place. One workshop focused on “How to manage a legal clinic”. The second workshop dealt with “The rules of good supervision”. The third concentrated on “Professional Ethics for Lawyers” and the fourth workshop tried to answer the question: “Challenges of Clinical Legal Education in Europe – How can ENCLE contribute?”. The conference was closed with some final remarks by the President of the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE), Mr Filip Czernicki.
The conference was co-organized by: Legal Clinic Foundation in Poland and International University, College of Turin with the support of Open Society Foundation, University of Warsaw and Leon Kozminski University.
